Croatia, especially, Dinamo Zagreb has been the breeding ground of some exceptional talents over the years and the next big thing coming out of the Croatian giants’ famed academy is 19-year-old Ante Coric who has attracted an enormous interest from almost every top European club. Sky Sports claim that both Tottenham and Everton have inquired Dinamo Zagreb about the possibility of signing the youngster this summer. Although any deal for the 19-year-old still looks farfetched, Coric would be a quality addition for any club in the world, given the potential that he has displayed.
Coric is rated among the most gifted young players in the continent and the spotlight he is attracting right now is well-deserved given the quality he has already displayed for Dinamo at his tender age. The prodigy made his professional debut just two days after his 17th birthday when he came on as a substitute in Dinamo Zagreb’s win over RNK Split in the Croatian top flight and since then he never had to look back and now would be the right time for him to embrace greater challenges.
The 19-year-old already boasts an impressive 85 appearances for Dinamo Zagreb till date and in the process, he has notched 12 goals and provided 16 assists. Still a raw talent, Coric has what it takes to become a world beater in near future but he needs to choose his next club carefully.
The 19-year-old is an out and out number ten and has often been compared to his compatriot Luka Modric due to his likewise physique and amazing technique. Coric, with his jaw-dropping dribbling skills, can make his way past defenders with unmatched ease and it is not every day we get to see a 19-year-old with the passing range of Coric. The Croatian international can find his teammates with pin-point passes, be it long or short.
Coric uses his small stature and agility aptly and likes to take on defenders on and in the process make room for himself as well as his teammates. Despite not being the strongest, Coric has often been used as a number eight and has still managed to come out on top. The Croatian is a classic playmaker and if Spurs manage to secure his signature, it would be a massive statement from them.
From the player’s point of view, a move to Spurs makes perfect sense. There aren’t many gaffers out there better than Pochettino when it comes to grooming the young players and unlike some of the accomplished managers of the game, Pochettino is not scared to take his chances by offering them first-team opportunities when the Argentines feels confident about their impact. Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Eric Dier are all cases in point.
Ante Coric to Spurs- looks pretty much a match made in heaven. Spurs are looking for more attacking midfield options next season with Champions League commitments and Coric can provide the Lilywhites that extra bit of spark. Spurs’ move for Georges-Kevin N’Koudou has stalled since they failed to bring the Frenchman from Marseille over a fortnight ago and that can act as a blessing in disguise if they can strike a deal for Coric.
