A 12th placed finish for Swansea City last season was not a bad result especially after their less than impressive start to their previous campaign. However, Francesco Guidolin, who has taken over a domestic outfit after two years, will be hoping to better his team’s performance from the last season and will try to get them into the top half of the table. The 60-year old Italian manager has already added Mark Birighitti, Leroy Fer, Mike van der Hoorn and Gerhard Tremmel to his squad and is looking for more additions to add some quality and depth to the team going into the next season. And the latest player linked with a move to the Liberty Stadium is Tottenham Hotspur’s Nacer Chadli.
The manager is desperate to add some attacking firepower to the squad having let Bafetimbi Gomis, Eder and Alberto Paloschi leave already this summer. The likes of Fernando Llorente and Leonardo Ulloa have also been linked with a move to Swansea this summer but it is now understood that they are desperate to land Spurs’ attacking midfielder this summer. So is a move for Chadli the right one for the mid-table Premier League team? Will he provide enough firepower to the club next season?
The likes of Erik Lamela and Son Heung-Min were used for most parts of the previous season by Pochettino at the White Hart Lane leaving Chadli with hardly any place in the starting XI. The Belgium international made 33 appearances in total for the club in the previous season but most of them came from the bench and it is now understood that he is unsettled at the club and that he wants to move this summer. It is also revealed that Swansea City had a bid rejected for the 27-year old but are now ready to step up their pursuit of the attacking midfielder for a move this summer. So what will he add to the squad at the Liberty Stadium?
A versatile player who can play in any of the three positions behind the striker, Chadli is a decent ballplayer who has good technique and skill to go with his understanding of the game. At his age, he has gathered some much-needed experience that will help the Swansea side in crunch times next season. He is a player who loves to have the ball at his feet and is excellent at creating opportunities for his side. He is known for playing simple passes that open defences up and these attributes make him an attractive product for Guidolin in the transfer market. He still has to work on his defensive contribution to the game but he will need regular game time to settle into such a style something he lacked at White Hart Lane last season.
Guidolin has recognised Chadli as the man around whom the attacks of Swansea can be built throughout next season and if he can get Chadli to move to Swansea City, it will be a great move for all parties involved. It will be hard for Chadli to leave a Champions League club for a mid-table club this summer but that is best for his career which has promised some great potential. Do you think Nacer Chadli is a smart move for Swansea City?
