Rangers earned their first win in the Premiership after their long-awaited return to the top tier after four years as the Gers saw off Dundee at Dens Park on Saturday. Their first game after their return to the Premiership saw the Gers being held 1-1 by Hamilton Academical but the win against Dundee will definitely set up the mood at Ibrox. The Gers have been active in the transfer market throughout the summer and have brought in nine new players but they are still not done in the market from what it seems.
Rangers lost their first-choice forward Martyn Waghorn to a hamstring injury during their 1-1 draw against Hamilton. Even though veteran Kenny Miller has been in scintillating form from the very start of the season, not bringing in another centre-forward can turn out to be costly for the Gers. Warburton will leave no stone unturned in his quest to challenge rivals Celtic for the title this season and we can expect Rangers to bring in another striker during the remainder of the transfer window.
Rangers are closing in on the signing of Joe Garner from Preston North End, according to The Scottish Sun. The aforementioned report also claims that the 28-year-old has set his heart on a move to the north of the border and a deal could be finalised in the coming week.
Garner has been on the books of Preston since 2013 and has scored 57 goals for the club from 148 games. He played a key role in Preston North End winning promotion to the Championship in the 2014-15 season scoring 25 goals from 37 League one games. However, a big dip in form awaited him as he could manage just six goals last season in the Championship from 44 games.
Now aged 28, a move to Ibrox would definitely attract the former English under 19 international. Playing in front of one of a 50k Ibrox crowd and representing one of the traditional big clubs in Great Britain- these are opportunities of a lifetime. Awarded League One Player of the Year in 2014-15 and then being touted as a flop in the Championship, a move away might rejuvenate the career of the talented striker.
Garner would be a shrewd addition to Rangers. Even Martyn Waghorn failed to impress in the Championship but has regularly made the headlines in Scotland. Garner has all the qualities to take the Premiership by a storm and can boost Rangers’ title chances. He looks pretty much like the last piece of the jigsaw.
