Jose Mourinho will start his adventure at Old Trafford with a shot at silverware in his very first game in charge of the club in the domestic season. The Community Shield will see Leicester City, the Champions of England, play Manchester United, the FA Cup winners, for the first piece of silverware this season. There have been plenty of changes for Manchester United from their previous season and are expected play a relatively new side against the Foxes with a number of summer signings taking their place in the starting XI.
Though Mourinho is still in the market for a few players, he will set out his strongest squad on Sunday to have a shot at starting his career at Old Trafford with a trophy. The likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger have no chance of making the team while the manager revealed that Chris Smalling and Fosu Mensah were back in training and may play a part in this game. Paul Pogba, who is linked with a move to the club over the last couple of weeks will not be available even if he officially completes the move before kick-off. With the match day coming closer, here is the predicted line-up that Jose Mourinho might play at Wembley.
Defense
David de Gea
An easy option for the manager, the Spaniard who has been one of the best players for the club in the last two seasons will start in goal for the Red Devils.
Antonio Valencia
The 31-year old had a decent season for the club last campaign and his experience will help him get a place in the game against Leicester City on Sunday. He’s had a pretty good pre-season.
Chris Smalling
Having just come back from an injury, Chris Smalling was back in training and may feature in this game according to the manager who spoke about him in the build-up to the game.
Eric Bailly
The new summer signing from Villarreal is expected to play a big role in the center of the defense for United next season and there is no better way for him to start than in a game against the domestic champions.
Luke Shaw
Having missed most of the last season due to a horrific injury, Luke Shaw is back with the squad and had a decent pre-season under his belt and will be expected to excel in his left-back role for the team not just in this game but also in the season ahead.
Midfield
Ander Herrera
Having impressed in the pre-season chances that he got, Herrera seems to have crawled into Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford and will be given a start in the midfield against Leicester City.
Morgan Schneiderlin
The main stay of the current United squad in the midfield, the former Southampton man was decent in the outings he got in the pre-season under Mourinho and is expected to start alongside Herrera for the game at Wembley.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Another of the summer signing that is set to assume a huge role next season, Mkhitaryan is an impact player for United and will have to get all the game time he can to settle into the squad quickly. He will be given a start on the right side of attack on Sunday.
Wayne Rooney
With all the new comers in the team, the club captain Wayne Rooney will be withdrawn to a number 10 role just behind the main striker where he can exploit the space in defence. He will play an important role for the club if they walk away with the Sheild from this game.
Anthony Martial
The French international was one of the best players for the club in the previous season and will be expected to start consistently from the left side of the attack. He will thrive with the quality of players around him if he can keep up his good work from the previous season.
Striker
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Swede who made a much-awaited move to Old Trafford will get his first chance to lead the side’s attacking line in a meaningful match. Having scored just 4 minutes into his debut for the club, he will be expected to carry the team to victory over the Foxes.
