Rangers long awaited return to the Scottish Premiership didn’t go as the fans would wave wished for. All they could salvage from their first Premiership game of the season was just one point as Martyn Waghorn equalised to make it 1-1 against Hamilton Academical at Ibrox. However, one bad game does not mean anything. Expectations were high as they played their first game in the top tier after four years and we can understand the reason for a few nervy moments.
Dundee had a fairly disappointing season last term as they struggled to an 8th place finish in the Scottish Premiership, failing to improve on their 5th place finish the season before. However, the Dark Blues started their season on a real high with a 1-3 away win against Ross County last weekend. Mark Warburton needs to bring out the best from his boys to get a much-needed win against Dundee on Saturday.
Rangers delivered a brilliant performance in the midweek thrashing Peterhead 5-0 in the round of 16 of the League Cup. The Gers also hold a strong head to head record against Dundee beating them in all the three games they played in the Premiership till date scoring seven goals without a reply.
Here is the predicted Rangers lineup against Dundee.
Defence
Wes Foderingham is likely to start between the sticks ahead of Matt Gilks. Warburton is likely to stick with veteran Clint Hill at the heart of the defence after his inspiring display against Peterhead where he scored two goals. Rob Kiernan will also retain his place. Skipper Lee Wallace will take his left-back spot from Lee Hodson while James Tavernier will retain his place.
Midfield
Rangers absolutely dominated against Peterhead with the midfield trio of Jordan Rossiter, Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar. Warburton is unlikely to make any kind of alterations to the 3-man midfield which means Andy Halliday will start on the bench. Joey Barton will start in a deeper role while Rossiter and Kranjcar will play in box to box roles.
Attack
Martyn Waghorn will miss the game with a hamstring injury which means Kenny Miller will spearhead the attack. Harry Forrester and Barrie McKay are likely to start on the flanks pushing Joe Dodoo and Michael O’Halloran to the bench.
