The Hammers were one of the many clubs that managed to impress everyone in the previous campaign of the English Premier League. The manager got the club to play a particular brand of football that was hard to beat even for the best sides in the league. The squad at West Ham had a great balance to it with strength and skill in equal measures as they managed to lodge victories against almost every top side in the league in the previous season. However, with European football beckoning on the horizon, the manager is desperate for additions to his squad with a striking option on the top of his priority list. He has been linked with a number of star players around Europe but recent reports suggest that Bilic may be close to completing a move for German striker Mario Gomez this summer.
Though it is understood that AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca is the first choice, it is revealed that West Ham are close to striking a deal with the 31-year old who was impressive in his outing with Germany in the EURO16 in France recently. So will this German forward solve the striking problems for West Ham this summer? The manager has already allowed one striker in Diafra Sakho to leave the club this summer and needs a top class name to help him in his adventure in Europe next season and Mario Gomez may just be the right option for the Hammers and here is why:
The 31-year old striker is one of the most experienced players in his position and has been in good form leading into the summer. He made 35 appearances for Turkish side Besiktas in the previous domestic season scoring 26 goals in all competitions and is currently one of the most in-form forwards in Europe. His consistency earned him a regular place in the German side in the EUROs and he is currently an attractive property in the transfer market. His strength, height and aerial ability make him a great fit for the Premier League while his style of play where he loves to dominate the opponents will go down well with Bilic at the Olympic stadium.
The West Ham manager has accumulated a squad that will flourish in the Premier League and Gomez will only add to that list. The likes of Michail Antonio and Dimitri Payet will also enjoy the big man’s services upfront making the whole team a bit stronger. He is available at just the £7m and is a dream purchase for any manager in the Premier League. Though he has no experience of playing in the Premier League, his style of play closely matches that of West Ham so he will hardly take any time to adjust to the league. He may not be as good an option as Bacca (who is coming with his own price) but with what he can offer at his price, Mario Gomez is a steal for the Hammers. However, it is to be seen if the political unrest in Turkey is enough for West Ham to lure Gomez out of Besiktas. Do you think Mario Gomez is a good choice by Slaven Bilic this summer?
