Middlesbrough have been linked with a shock loan move for the eldest son of France and Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane. Real are reportedly looking for a suitable destination for Enzo Zidane where he can further his footballing development. And ambitious Boro have wasted no time in joining the queue for the star in the making. They are refusing to slow down their roller-coaster ride in the transfer window and having gained promotion after a gap of 7 years under the managerial guidance of the pragmatic Aitor Karanka, they seem determined to plant their foot firmly in the top-tier of English football.
Middlesbrough have made a host of signings in the transfer window as contrary to the belief, Karanka is looking at established players to help them get accustomed to the completely alien demand of the Premier League. They have snapped up stars such as former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo, Champions League winner Victor Valdes and have invested heavily in Marten de Roon and added experience in Espinosa and have signed Viktor Fischer as well.
While they lost out on Neven Subotic due to a failed medical, they haven’t let it come as a downer and have moved onto other signings. And the latest pursuit of Zidane has only exemplified their ambitions even more.
ABOUT THE PLAYER
Enzo started playing for the youth academy of Real Madrid in 2004. On 6 September 2011, he was invited by José Mourinho to train with the club’s first team after which he was was promoted to Juvenil ‘A’ team two years later. In November 2014, Enzo made his debut for Real Madrid Castilla, the B-team, as a substitute in a 2–1 win over UB Conquense in Segunda División B. He scored his first goal in the first game of the 2015–16 season, a 5–1 home routing of CD Ebro. On 29 October, Enzo was promoted to train regularly with the first team.
Enzo has revived glimpses of the memory of his father playing in the No. 10 role, but it would be unfair to expect similar things from the player. He will look to carve out a niche for himself and will be buoyed by the recent developments wherein he has been training with the Real Madrid first team during the pre-season US tour.
But it is widely expected he will be sent out on loan and Aitor Karanka will be hoping his personal equation with the Real Madrid boss would help Boro to jump ahead of the likes of Sporting Gijon and Alcoron. Madrid expect Enzo to feature on a regular basis for the club and this will be a determining factor in deciding the club who will eventually succeed in landing him.
