With six points from the first two games of the new season, Jose Mourinho has made a dream start to his stint at Old Trafford. He has completely changed the look of the side with the number of signings he has made in the transfer window and is now going into the next season as one of the strongest outfits in England and also in Europe. But with the deadline day approaching, Mourinho is still looking to add a couple of players to his squad to add some depth and one such player who has been on his mind for some time now is Brazilian sensation, Gabriel Barbosa. The 19-year old Brazil striker has caught the eye of the biggest clubs in Europe after a staggering season in his home country with Santos scoring 21 goals across all competitions.
He is a versatile player who is capable of playing as a lone striker but equally effective in all the three positions behind the main striker. He has attributes that make most strikers in Europe envious, and for his age, he has already made himself a huge name. He has all the skills and tricks with the ball but what has made him a star player is his exceptional understanding of the game.
The 19-year old is not a player who will overrun defenders or beat them with skill but a single glance tells you how matured he is at his game. He loves to dominate the opposition half and is happy to stay patient till he can break them down while his finishing abilities on the ground and in the air make him a dangerous threat in front of goal. He does not like to carry the ball for long periods, yet is very adept at holding the ball and converting defense into attack making him one of the most exciting youngsters in Europe at the moment.
There is hardly any doubt as to whether he will fit into Old Trafford and whether he is good enough to dawn a Manchester United jersey so it is understandable that Jose Mourinho is desperate for his signature. His market value is around the £20m mark and though United will have to play a higher price, he will be a great addition to the squad. He will provide the dynamism and exuberance of youth that will not only improve the quality on the field but also improve the feel in the dressing room.
Mourinho has the likes of Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Wayne Rooney, Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimović fighting for 4 positions and Barbosa can easily climb his way up the ladder at Old Trafford. United will entertain the Europa League this season and will need all the depth they can acquire in the transfer window to help them come out of the season with glory. Though they already look well stacked, Barbosa’s additions will only make the team stronger than it already is and can provide the x-factor that can prove to be the difference when it matters. Do you think Manchester United need to sign the 19-year old this summer?
