According to reports, Leicester City have been linked with France defender Adil Rami, who recently featured for his national team in the Euros. Leicester will go into the premier league season looking to continue their firebrand approach which yielded unparalleled success last season.
Having Champions league and Premier League games to deal with along with the domestic cup competitions, the upcoming season will be a different ball-game altogether for the Premier league side who gained promotion as recently as the 2014-15 season.
Though every player in the team exceeded expectations when it came to their performances, there were a couple of pivotal players who stood out. Jamie Vardy showed amazing consistency in front of goal and he was full of energy and indomitable spirit throughout the campaign. He was ably assisted by the genius and trickery of Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian was a delight to watch as he left the defenders in knots and was unstoppable throughout the season. The midfield was held together by N’Golo Kante who was all over the pitch. He intercepted attacks and ran forward with the ball himself.
While all the aforementioned aspects helped them clinch the title, Leicester have been struck blow after blow in the transfer market. While Vardy rebuffed Arsenal’s approaches, Leicester were not so lucky with Kante, who joined Chelsea and rejected the chance to experience Champions League with the Foxes. And latest reports suggest Mahrez is ready to be Arsene Wenger’s trump card in pacifying the irate Arsenal supporters.
While Leicester are struggling to hold onto their star players, with the season opener ever closer they need to step up their attempts to bolster the squad in various positions. Defence had been identified as an area they needed to reinforce, with the age of their successful defensive pairing deemed too risky to rely on for the challenging season ahead. The Foxes have recruited Luis Hernandez but have been linked with Adil Rami throughout the summer. And it is evident centre-back is a position they have been focusing on.
Rami will bring experience along with him having played for Valencia, AC Milan and Sevilla, where he recently joined one year back. He plays on the left-side of the defence and his aerial ability will come in handy in the Premier League. Though he still has three years left on his contract, the former Lille man is said to be open to the challenge of playing in the English premier league.
Although Leicester’s top priority would be to recruit a proper replacement for Mahrez in case they fail in convincing him to stay, Rami would certainly give them the composure and stability at the back.
