It hasn’t been the kind of start Leicester City would have wished for. After taking the whole world by surprise last season going all the way to win the Premier League title, big things were expected of Leicester City this campaign but so far their journey hasn’t been rosy at all. The Foxes started their season with a loss to Manchester United in the FA Community Shield. On the opening day, a loss against weakened Hull City to start the season with added further woes to Ranieri’s side. Leicester are right now on points from three games and have been far from the team they were last campaign and we can expect Ranieri to pull off some late deals adding spark to the side.
Reliable Portuguese media house O Jogo claims that Leicester City have made a €25 million bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva. Meanwhile, the player has himself confirmed that he is all set to sign for the Premier League holders as per Sky Sports. Ranieri’s side are keen to add another central midfielder to their squad before the transfer deadline and shifted their focus to the Euro 2016 winner with Portugal after pulling out of the race for Steven N’Zonzi as per the same report.
The Foxes have struggled in midfield so far this season following the departure of N’Golo Kante. New signing Mendy is right now on the treatment table and none among Amartey, King, James and Inler is good enough to partner Danny Drinkwater in the middle of the park. So, Leicester moving for a new central midfielder is least surprising.
Adrien Silva has been one of the standout players in the Primeira Liga for quite a while now and it’s a bit surprising to see him in Portuguese football for so long. The midfield maestro enjoyed a stunning campaign last year as Sporting narrowly missed out on the Primeira Liga title, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists. He has started this season on a good note too having scored once from 3 Liga outings.
Silva is a relatively small player in stature with a frame of just 5 ft 9 in and might have to struggle initially in England. However, he is pretty well-built and has a great balance. Having a low centre of gravity, the 27-year-old can make use of a small space. The Portuguese international has an exemplary work rate and has a good eye for a pass, be it long or short.
Leicester City are having troubles in the Premier League already and with Champions League football, their work will become much tougher. An experienced and all-round midfielder like Adrien Silva can be a massive addition to the Foxes.
