Who would have thought that Hull City will surprise the whole world in their very first game after returning to the Premier League with a 2-1 win against the Premier League holders Leicester City, the team that shocked the world themselves in the last campaign! With just 13 senior players fit for the game, the Tigers earned such a result that will make the fans proud and on top of that, they did it with caretaker manager Mike Phelan. Steve Bruce, after leading the club for four long years, left the club earlier this summer putting the side in a difficult position.
Hull City’s search for the successor of Bruce goes on but they have plenty of ground to overcome in the transfer market as the Tigers are yet to splash a single penny in order to bolster their squad. No summer signing so far, the departure of a key player like Diame and an injury crisis in defence- Hull City staving off relegation at the end of the campaign looks like an uphill task and for their own sake, they have to act soon in the market.
The Hull Daily Mail claims that Hull City have made a £3.5m offer for Spurs full-back DeAndre Yedlin although there is a strong competition from Nigel Pearson’s Derby County which they have to fend off in order to bag the United States international’s signature. With Moses Odubajo injured, Hull are without any recognised right-back at the moment and had to play Ahmed Elmohamady in that position against Leicester City. So, moving for a new right-back makes sense.
DeAndre Yedlin’s time at Tottenham has been rather unremarkable since he joined in January of 2015 as he just managed to get one single appearance for the Lilywhites. The USA international spent the last season on loan at Sunderland after being deemed to be surplus to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad at Spurs. He had his shaky moments defensively in the first few months at the Stadium of Light but his defensive abilities improved big time under Sam Allardyce.
Yedlin’s improvement over the course of the last season at Sunderland was a remarkable one. He always was solid when bursting forward thanks to his bags of pace and dribbling abilities. Now, he is more of a complete full-back and he owes it to Big Sam, the new England boss, for his progress.
Yedlin clearly does not have any future at Spurs (he is third in the pecking order for right back at Spurs) and there is no use of hanging around. Moving to Hull City seems a much better option than a switch to Derby County who seem to be trapped in the Championship forever following their failure to win the playoffs for another season.
