Hull have entered talks regarding a shock move for ex-Liverpool midfielder Momo Sissoko, according to reports from talkSPORT. The Tigers are in a tricky situation right now with the Premier League starting in less than two weeks and being without a manager. To add further woes, one of the club’s key players Mohamed Diame is all set to join Championship side Newcastle United.
A newly-promoted club needs to add a few quality players to cope up with the quality of the Premier League and Hull City are yet to add a single big player to the squad that managed to win promotion last term winning the playoffs. With Diame moving out, a new midfielder looks a priority. Getting a player like Momo Sissoko who has an immense experience at the highest level and that too for free, would be a daylight robbery from Hull city.
The 31-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua and boasts an illustrious career that’s seen him ply his trade in England, Spain, Italy and France, as well as the Far East. The French-born Malian international has graced the pitch for elite clubs like Valencia, Liverpool, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
Sissoko has been training with Nancy in order to maintain his fitness following his contract expiry with Shanghai Shenhua and talkSPORT claims that the French club are lining up a contract offer. Montpellier, too, have offered him a two-year deal but now Premier League new boys Hull want to land him.
The Mali international is blessed with a large frame of 6’3″ and quite obviously is a force in the air. Sissoko excels as a ball winner, a role which allows him to support his more offensive midfield team-mates defensively by laying off the ball to them after winning back possession. With Huddlestone alongside him, Sissoko will thrive at the KC Stadium in a double pivot.
For a player of his frame, Sissoko has an impressive agility and great tenacity. Huddlestone is more of a player who likes to sit in front of the back four blessed thanks to his discipline but Sissoko is a bit different. The 31-year-old wins the ball and loves to burst forward on occasions. Another big plus Sissoko brings is his immense experience which will prove to be pivotal for the Tigers if they have to stay up.
