Liverpool were off to a superb start to their Premier League campaign as they put four past a weak Arsenal side that managed to get close by scoring thrice in the first game for both clubs in the new season. Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, will be delighted with his team’s result but will have seen a number of positions that need to be strengthened with the left-back and defensive midfielders positions taking utmost priority. However, the Reds have been linked with a number of attacking players in recent times and though the club has enough firepower in attack, they are willing to sell a couple of players in the transfer window, who might be replaced. One such player who is now reportedly on Liverpool’s radar is Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne.
The 25-year old attacking midfielder is a versatile player who can play in all the three positions behind the striker and is an exciting prospect for the Italian national side. He started his career as a youth product of Napoli and managed to make 131 appearances for the senior side in his time at the club till date. He had two seasons on loan in the middle of his career and he also excelled in his time there. He is now an important part of the Napoli team that is fighting for some glory this season but Liverpool are reportedly ready to swoop for him this summer.
The 25-year old scored 12 goals and picked up another 10 assist in the Serie A last season for Maurizio Sarri’s side where he was used as a left-forward in his traditional 4-3-3 system. He was unstoppable when at his best and just blew through opponents with accurate passing and some skillful dribbling on the flank. He is a crisp passer who loves to cut in from the left to unleash his dangerous right foot and is also equally adept in scoring or setting up his team-mates. He also is good at holding the ball up under pressure but he is not a strong individual who relishes a physical game. He is a bit of a liability in the air but more than covers it up with him impressive technique and skill on the ball.
It is reported that he is not yet offered a new contract in Italy and that Liverpool are ready to send a representative to start talks with the player. But with the likes of Phillipe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Geroginio Wijnaldum already in the squad fighting for a few places, it is hard to see where the Italian fits into the Anfield squad. He may not get enough game time at Liverpool but at just £21.5m, he is an absolute steal. Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is looking to build the team for the long term and if he thinks Insigne will help Liverpool in years to come, this might be the only time to move for him (with no new contract offered from Napoli). Do you think Insigne should move to Liverpool this summer?
