Sunderland are on the verge of announcing their first transfer deadline day capture in the form of Didier N’dong from Ligue 1 side Lorient. However, their second capture of the deadline day might not be far away as The Sunderland Echo claims that Steven Naismith could be on his move to Sunderland reuniting with former boss David Moyes. The Mirror claims that this deal is as good as done.
Naismith joined Norwich City from Everton last January only but failed to inspire the Canaries to secure their stay in the Premier League. However, a player of Naismith’s quality was always going to be offered a Premier League lifeline and this time, his compatriot Moyes has come to his rescue. The deal for Naismith could prove to be a solid and much-needed addition to the Wearside club.
Versatility
Steven Naismith is a complete utility player. Initially starting his career as a number nine at Kilmarnock, the 29-year-old has been used in a number of positions throughout his career. The Scottish international can play as a number ten, on either flank or even as a central midfielder. He is not the fastest of players nor the most creative, but tactically, the Scot is a strong player and is always at the right place at the right time. Overall, he is a very decent footballer blessed with good versatility.
A big match player?
During his Everton days, Naismith has shown that he is a player who shows his true colours in the big games. Not many players can do that! We have seen many world class players always choking at the biggest stage but Naismith is not one of them. His big game mentality can be a solid addition to the Black Cats. Was it a fluke? Well, that’s for you to decide!
Good working relationship with Moyes
It was none other than David Moyes who brought the Scottish forward to English football. The duo share a very good working relationship from their Everton days and a reunion could prove to be a great deal for Sunderland. The Black Cats were in a dire need for attacking reinforcements having only Defoe and Borini as options up front and if Naismith can come up with at least 10 goals+assists at the Stadium of Light, that will act as a big plus for the Wearside club. A seasoned Premier League campaigner, Naismith adds plenty of experience to Sunderland’s attack.
