Crystal Palace have started their new season in a horrific fashion having secured just one point from three Premier League outings. The Eagles have looked off-colour so far and Alan Pardew will definitely be looking to make some late deals to inspire his squad.
Crystal Palace have made a bid for Lorient striker Abdul Majeed Waris according to France Football. Even though the Eagles shattered their club record to bring Christian Benteke from Liverpool this summer, the Eagles still need more firepower up front and Waris is more than capable of providing them just that.
As claimed by the report, Crystal Palace’s offer for the 24-year-old is worth €12m but Lorient are in no hurry to decide as the Ghanaian forward is under contract at the Ligue 1 club for three more years. The 24-year-old moved to Lorient last summer and showed good form in Ligue 1 especially.
Despite playing only 20 games, he still managed to get on the scoresheet 11 times, as well as another in the cup. The 24-year-old is yet to register his first goal this season, though, after three Ligue 1 games.
Waris is predominantly a striker but can also be deployed out wide. The Ghana international is blessed with a wild pace and can outrun most defenders in the world. Just 5’8” tall, Waris is a striker who always wants to beat the defensive line with his sensational pace and could be a good outlet on the counter.
Waris’ pace and direct approach to the game allow him to do a decent job if deployed as a secondary striker or on the flanks. Crystal Palace have just two good strikers right now at their disposal with Benteke and Wickham as Campbell and Appiah are clearly not good enough for the Premier League. A new striker should have been Pardew’s priority before the transfer window shuts and Waris would be an excellent signing.
Benteke is an out and out target man and is a proven Premier League goalscorer but with Waris, Crystal Palace will have a whole new dimension in attack. You always need to stay ready with a plan B and Waris can prove to be Pardew’s. The 24-year-old will also offer Pardew the freedom to opt for a two-man forward line.
