Normal service resumed at the Stamford Bridge as Chelsea finally put together a dominant performance as they thoroughly outclassed Burnley in a 3-0 victory today.
While the Blues were on a healthy 6 points out of 6, none of their displays were convincing enough with last minute goals from Diego Costa needed to fetch them the wins. But all that was forgotten with a scintillating performance as Burnley weren’t given a sniff of repeating last weekend’s result.
We take a look at how the Chelsea player’s performed in the 3-0 victory.
COURTOIS: 6/10
Had absolutely nothing to do as he watched his teammates make merry higher up the pitch.
IVANOVIC: 6.5/10
Enjoyed his stint in Burnley’s half and always offered himself as an option for Willian.
CAHILL: 7/10
Extinguished the feeble threat posed by the Burnley duo up top. Had a comfortable game along with the rest of the backline.
TERRY: 6.5/10
The captain had a reassuring display alongside Cahill and nullified Vokes and Gray and by the evidence on show, today, his Chelsea career might well be prolonged by the presence of Kante in front of the back-four. Missed a gilt-edged chance though.
AZPILICUETA: 6.5/10
Spent a considerable time alongside Hazard in attack but his quality was lacking in the advanced areas. Snuffed out any threat on his flank.
KANTE: 8/10
Showed exactly why Chelsea had made him their priority signing. Was all over the pitch snuffing out every Burnley attack without a drop in intensity throughout the match. Will be one of their key players this season.
WILLIAN: 8/10
Man of the match for many, the midfielder was a menace throughout and was on top with his passing and attacking play top notch. Capped off a brilliant display with a venomous goal from a wide angle.
OSCAR: 6.5/10
Not a huge influence. Was tidy on the ball and retained possession with controlled passing. Did not have to exert himself too much.
MATIC: 6.5/10
Was a surprising choice ahead of Fabregas probably due to the nervy nature of Chelsea defence and did not have much to do due to the dominance of the Blues. Will have much sterner tests of his credentials in the coming matches.
HAZARD: 8/10
The epitome of Chelsea’s resurgence. Broke the deadlock early on with a nice run and excellent finish. Was at the Burnley defence throughout the game. On a luckier day would have got a hat-trick to his name.
COSTA: 7/10
Quieter game in comparison to the previous two. Lacked a bit of sharpness in the box but laid on a nice assist for Willian to hit home.
SUBSTITUTES
MOSES: 7/10
Might well revive his Chelsea career. Was a strong presence from the bench and capped off a cameo with a well taken sliding finish to make it 3-0.
PEDRO: 6.5/10
Looked to impress in the limited time and was involved in the third goal as he raced clear and put a pin-point cross with his left foot for Moses to slide home.
BATSHUAYI: 6/10
Looked sharp in the last minutes and played without much pressure today with the match already in the bag.
