Antonio Conte got off to a bright start to his Premier League adventure as Diego Costa’s last-gasp winner gave the Blues a controversial victory over their cross-town rivals West Ham in the first game of the season. The manager has brought in the likes of Michy Batshuayi and N‘Golo Kanté to his team in the summer in a bid to strengthen the side ahead of the new season and is still in the transfer market for a few additions before the deadline day. The club has been linked with some of the best players in Europe and one such player who is reportedly subject a bid from the Stamford Bridge outfit is Swiss international Ricardo Rodriguez.
The 23-year old powerful left-back rose to the scene with his performances in the World Cup a couple of years ago and has been impressive playing for the German side Wolfsburg. He is looking for a move away from the club in search of a bigger adventure and is hoping to secure a transfer before the deadline day according to reports. He is contracted to the German outfit till 2019 making it hard for the Blues to lure Wolfsburg to sell but if Conte can splash the cash, Ricardo Rodriguez might yet move to the Premier League this summer.
As already mentioned, he is a strong defender who has exceptional technique and skill for his position. He is a great passer and an even better dribbler which allows him to create plenty of chances for his side even from a defensive position. He is a physical player who is not afraid of putting himself about on the field while his defensive discipline is commendable. He is an attacking left-back but is also equally adept at shutting shop at the back when his team needs to. Having played professional football for over 6 years now, the 23-year old has gathered loads of experience even on the international stage and is surely ready to take the next step.
The former Italian boss who is now at Chelsea is said to be an admirer of the player and wants to add him to his squad ahead of the next season. He is reportedly ready to make a £22m bid for the player which might be enough to land him and if Conte is able to get his man, it can easily be one of the best transfers this summer. The manager at the Bridge is reportedly not happy with the number of options he has on the wings after the likes of Nathan Ake and Baba Rahman were allowed to leave the club. So a move for the Swiss international makes a lot of sense.
Cesar Azpilicueta has been one of the most consistent players for the club recently and he will also be able to push himself with some competition for his position. What do you think the 23-year old will add to Chelsea this summer?
