It has been an interesting month at Anfield with the new manager Jürgen Klopp bringing his own flair into how the club has dealt with its transfers. Previously, the club has been linked with some big names but have not been able to lure them when the time came but since the start of the Klopp era, Liverpool have mainly been linked with players who fill a void in the squad even though they are not necessarily coming with big reputations. They have every now and then been linked with the likes of Mario Götze and Alexander Lacazette but have not really been desperate for a big name.
However, one such player who is now linked with a move to Anfield is PSG’s lightning quick Lucas Moura. A winger in every sense of the word, the Brazilian is easily one of the quickest players in the League 1 in France and has been on the radar of the Merseyside club over the last two transfer windows. He is a player who will also fit Klopp’s style perfectly but is not exactly the player the club needs at this moment (Alberto Moreno still remains the club’s first choice left-back). So does this move make sense for the Anfield outfit? Should they go all in to land the winger this summer?
Jürgen Klopp, as already mentioned is not looking for big name players who will make other teams worry about the club. But his transfer decisions this season have a method to it. The club lacked genuine pace in wide areas last season and the first player that will add to the first team next season is a player who exudes pace in Sadio Mane from Southampton. Though the Senegalese winger is not the best player in the league at the moment, he is a decent player who has been consistent and will surely add more to the attack at the club. The same can be said about Joel Matip, who came into the side to increase the physicality and strength in the back line.
Almost every piece of business Klopp did this summer so far has had its own purpose and this is where the Lucas Moura link makes a lot of sense. Having another wide man who can run behind defenses with the own defense still weak may seem to be a mediocre idea, but Liverpool will certainly benefit from the 23-year old. The creativity and hunger for goals that the Brazilian winger will bring to the team can lift Liverpool to places. A glance at his scout report will tell you that any team would love to have him in his ranks and if Liverpool can get him this summer, it can easily be the best buy for them in the transfer window.
Though pricing him away from PSG is not easy, Klopp will be hoping to get his man this summer as he can also help the squad in the years to come. He may not be an immediate need at Anfield but is surely a luxury Liverpool can afford going into the next season and with the way the team is being built at Anfield, Lucas may just be the last piece of the puzzle in attack for Liverpool.
