West Ham are looking quite busy from the very start of the transfer window and we understand why. The club could potentially be heading to their golden era and Bilic will definitely leave no stones unturned in his quest to lead the Hammers to a whole new dimension. With the long-term injury to Aaron Cresswell, West Ham’s biggest needs in the transfer window will be a new left-back and a quality number nine.
While we expect the Hammers exploring the market for a new left-back and a centre-forward, the club has been again linked with a quality winger. As reported by The Wales Online, Swansea City winger Andre Ayew is set for a sensational £16m switch to West Ham United. Well, it is a strange piece to digest as the Hammers could have snapped him up for free last summer from Marseille but did not do it and now they are looking to splash £16m on a position where they are already rich with depth and quality both.
Andre Ayew joined Swansea on a free transfer following his contract expiry with Marseille last summer and was the standout performer at the Liberty. From 34 Premier League games, the Senegalese international fired in 12 goals and provided five assists. If not for him and Sigurdsson, Swansea probably could not have retained their Premier League status intact.
Ayew is definitely a top-quality player and deserves to be linked with bigger clubs like West Ham but truth to be told, West Ham do not need any more wingers. They have five options to play out wide with Feghouli, Payet, Lanzini, Antonio and loanee Tore. All of them are quality players and deserves time on the pitch. With Europa League football, you would probably say that West Ham will get the benefit from the competition for places but that’s too risky a game to play.
There is a chance that Bilic might not be able to offer them decent game time which could damage the morale of the team. The one-time African Footballer of the Year is a versatile player and can ply his trade as a number nine but West Ham are in need for a more recognised centre-forward.
Ayew is definitely a very good footballer but West Ham do not need him right now. It does not make sense. The Hammers should rather move for a proven striker and a left-back as early as possible.
