Sunderland are looking to bring David Moyes to fill the vacancy left by Sam Allardyce once he is confirmed as England manager as per reports from Sky Sports. Moyes has been out of work since November 2015 when he was fired by Real Sociedad after a year in charge of the Spanish club. Providing there are no last-minute hitches, the former Manchester United manager’s appointment as the next Black Cats boss looks like just a matter of time.
Moyes is admired by Sunderland owner Ellis Short for quite a while now and it’s not the first time when he looked forward to the Scotsman for the Sunderland hot seat. The sooner Big Sam is appointed as the boss of the Three Lions, the better it is for the Wearside club who are suffering in the transfer market due to the managerial situation and need to catch up.
There are some pros and cons of David Moyes becoming the next Sunderland manager.
PROS
1> The biggest advantage would be Moyes’ immense experience in the Premier League. The Scot managed Everton for 12 long years and then he was handpicked by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson to fill in the boots of him at Manchester United. Although, it proved to be too much for him but surely Fergie saw the capabilities of the 53-year-old.
2> In his 12 years at Everton, Moyes proved that he is a master of the art when it comes to finding out gems without spending a hefty amount of cash. The likes of Tim Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Seamus Coleman and plenty more were signed for a relative pittance by the Scotsman. Sunderland fans would want the same from the Scot at the Stadium of Light.
3> Moyes always used to promote homegrown talents during his Everton days. Wayne Rooney, Leon Osman, Jack Rodwell all came through the youth ranks of the club when Moyes was in charge. Sunderland’s youth academy has failed to produce talents in recent seasons and that could change with Moyes arriving at the club.
Cons
The only thing that would make us a bit sceptical about the deal would be Moyes’ recent track record of late. Since leaving Everton for Manchester United, the Scotsman gradually lost his charm. A massive failure at Old Trafford, Moyes also failed to reach the heights at Real Sociedad. Sunderland fans are in desperate need for a season when they won’t have to deal with a relegation battle and if Moyes can’t ensure it, he will definitely get the stick from the fans.
