The first and foremost move that Klopp made after being appointed as the manager of Liverpool F.C was getting the demoralised Anfield faithful by the team’s side again. The notion that Liverpool weren’t headed anywhere under Rodgers had caused restlessness amongst supporters which increased manifold as matches went by.
While Jurgen Klopp has been able to instil belief and a sense of hope to the spectators, there is still a long way to go before the results show on the pitch. There have been glimpses of the promised future, most vividly in matches against Manchester City where they steamrolled the Etihad outfit. But embarking on a consistent run of such games will be the real challenge for the former Borussia Dortmund manager.
Klopp has made a handful of signings over the summer while patching up his back-line and has also reinforced his attacking options. Klopp is known for his high-intensity approach and expects his players to be fully committed to the team’s cause and give their 100% on the pitch.
Liverpool have started the pre-season on a positive note with 4 convincing victories on the trot. With the new signings gelling well with the team, things are already looking bright ahead of Klopp’s first full season at Anfield.
But they faced defeat at the hands of domestic rivals Chelsea in a 0-1 defeat in their first game of the International Champions Cup. Liverpool will be looking to dust themselves up after the particular setback and get back to winning ways against fallen Italian giants A.C Milan. A shadow of their former selves, Milan have suffered a turbulent time in recent seasons and play in the ICC at a time a hardcore group of fans protest against owner Silvio Berlusconi’s running of the club. Milan are at arguably their lowest point footballing wise, having finished 8th, 10th and 7th in Serie A in the last three seasons, prompting their decision to turn to Vincenzo Montella to revive their fortunes.
Klopp will look to mostly use the same team which started in the defeat against Chelsea and introduce fresher legs as the game goes on. There will be enforced changes due to due injuries to Karius and Grujic who suffered a concussion in the last match. Mignolet will take up his place between the sticks as he begins to prove himself all over again even after 3 years at the club.
They are likely to start off in 4-2-3-1 formation-
