Hull City made an immediate comeback to the Premier League by winning the Championship playoff against Sheffield Wednesday. Steve Bruce will be keen to have a much better Premier League showing than what the Tigers had the last time out. However, Hull City are still quite silent in the transfer market. The Tigers retained the core of their squad that survived the drop from the Premier League prior to last season and it’s understandable why they are not desperate to bolster their squad.
In this article, we will take a look at three players who will be key for the Tigers this upcoming season.
Michael Dawson
Dawson will be someone who needs to lead from the front for his team in the next campaign. The former Spurs skipper right now represents Hull with the armband. With his immense Premier League experience, Dawson will definitely be one of the key players for Hull City next season.
A leader of men, he also has to ensure that he can bring out the best from his teammates. If Hull City can ensure a tight enough defence, they can fend off the daunting prospect of going down once again. The English international will have to play a key role to ensure that Hull does not get exploited defensively.
Abel Hernandez
The Uruguayan international took quite a long time to find his goalscoring boots in England but once he did, he could not stop scoring. The 25-year-old was one of the pivotal players in helping Hull City come back to the Premier League with 22 goals from 45 games in all competitions.
Now Hernandez has to step up in the Premier League. The last time the Uruguayan featured in the Premier League was highly unproductive but this time, he will be keen to fire in the top tier of English football.
Mohamed Diame
The Senegal international was by some distance, Hull’s best player last season. 10 goals and 4 assists from 45 games is a figure any midfielder would love to have. The Senegalese international will be a key player for Hull in their comeback season in the Premier League. Diame was missed through injuries in Hull’s last Premier League campaign which ended in the Tigers going down. He was indeed a major miss for the Tigers.
Diame is well-known to Premier League from his Wigan and West Ham days. With Huddlestone and Livermore alongside him, Hull City boasts quite a strong midfield. It was the Senegalese international’s spectacular strike from long-range that proved to be enough to beat Sheffield Wednesday in the playoff final. Diame has shown time and time again that he can change a game on his own and he might have to pull off some next season too.
