Liverpool, who are enjoying a good season have been linked with talented Real Madrid winger Lucas Vasquez. According to reports, Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing him to Anfield to partner him with the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino.
Vasquez has impressed in limited opportunities which he has got under Zidane. Vasquez who is 26, has scored 8 times and has also provided 8 assists in various competitions. He has managed to make just 13 appearances this season in the La Liga and that would be frustrating for him.
Liverpool are coming on the back of some good results as they secured a comfortable 3-0 win against Bournemouth this weekend. Along with that they are in the semi-finals of the Champions League and are in with a good chance to go all the way in the tournament.
Vasquez is a Real Madrid youth academy product and was sold to Espanyol to get some game time. Real Madrid had a buy-back clause and they used that to get him back in Madrid in 2015. Since then he has been on the fringe players list as he has had to compete for places with likes of Bale, Isco and Asensio. Nevertheless, he has done well in whatever limited opportunities he has got and has also gone to represent the Spanish national team six times.
It’s being reported that Vasquez can cost as much as £69m. That’s a lot of money to spend on a player who isn’t a regular starter for the club. Liverpool currently have a strong first XI but they don’t seem to have too much depth on the creative front. Lallana has been injured for the most part of the season and an injury to either of the prolific front three can upset Liverpool’s team balance.
Currently, Liverpool will be hoping that their trio is fit for all the crucial games which are to come. Next season they will surely like to add more depth to the squad so that the team can cope up in the times of injuries and suspension. Vasquez will be a good buy but we have often seen that Klopp doesn’t spend too much on a player who will not make the first XI straightaway. Vasquez can also find it difficult to get used to the pace and physicality of the Premier League as he hasn’t played outside of Spain before. Only time will tell whether the Spaniard will make the switch to the Merseyside club.
