Rangers Ready To Let Go Of This 29 Y/O Mexican Forward: Good Move For All Parties Involved?

Rangers are ready to part ways with their Mexican striker Eduardo Herrera this summer. According to recent reports, the Gers are ready to let him leave and set up a return to his homeland to play for Chivas in the near future.

The 29-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations at the Ibrox Stadium and has barely featured for the Teddy Bears during the course of this campaign. He has fallen down the pecking order under Graeme Murty after the arrival of Jason Cummings. The Mexican forward was signed by former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha last year in a transfer worth in the region of £1.5m from Pumas.

However, Herrera has just found the back of the net twice for the Gers this season with one of those goals coming in the league in Rangers’ clash at Ross County back in August last year. He is yet to make an appearance for the Glaswegian outfit this year and is now set to leave in search of greener pastures.

It is believed that Chivas has already enquired about the player’s availability and the Gers are willing to let him leave when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

Rangers are currently sitting in the second place in the Scottish Premiership table with a tally of 58 points in 30 league outings with just five points separating them from third-placed Aberdeen, who have played a game less. The Teddy Bears are still a massive 9 points behind crosstown rivals and league leaders Celtic going into the final stretch of the season.

The departure of Herrera won’t have an effect on Graeme Murty’s first-team going into the new season as the Gers try to bridge the gap between themselves and their rivals Celtic in the coming years. They can use the money generated from the potential departure of the 29-year-old forward to strengthen other areas of their squad.

It will also benefit the player to return to his homeland in an effort to reignite his career. Herrera has made 24 appearances for Rangers this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in all competitions. At 29, he still has a few good years left in him which Chivas could look to utilise in the coming seasons. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Herrera and whether the Teddy Bears let him leave this summer in search of fresh adventures.
