Manchester United In The Race For This Serie A Ace’s Signature: What Can He Add To The Side?

Italian news outlet, Calcionews24 has reported about Manchester United’s reignited interest in SSC Napoli midfielder, Jorginho. The Red Devils have joined Chelsea in the race for the 26-year-old’s signature and a head-to-head battle is predicted in the period leading up to the summer transfer window.

Jorginho is a regular starter under Maurizio Sarri with 31 appearances in all competitions this season. The Brazilian ace has racked up 4 goals and 4 assists over the course of the 2017/18 campaign and has been a key figure in the side’s remarkable challenge for the league title.

Napoli’s title challenge took a massive detour after the 2-4 loss to AS Roma and the subsequent 0-0 draw to Inter Milan last weekend. They are 4 points behind Juventus in the 2nd place of the Serie A table, 10 games left to make the comeback. Despite their poor run of form in recent times, they still have been an impressive side.

While Napoli’s success in the current season can be attributed to the style of play that Sarri has implemented, Jorginho has been at the heart of it all. The former Verona player has bossed the midfield from the deep anchor position and has played a major part on both ends of the pitch.

His responsibilities are shifted around the quota of winning balls while at the same time linking up with his teammates and formulating the attacks.

Jorginho’s technical abilities paired with his strong 5 feet 11 inches physical self-make him one of the best playmakers in the Serie A. The type of service that will be welcomed with open arms at a side like Manchester United.

Mourinho is well aware of the talent and experience Jorginho brings to the table and will be inclined to pursue his services aggressively. The United midfield can do with a cool and composed head who will accentuate the game of Paul Pogba himself.

Michael Carrick is very close to retirement and Marouane Fellaini’s contract is set to end after this season.

Ander Herrera’s future is also uncertain with the Spaniard getting constantly linked to European sides. Even though Nemanja Matic has impressed on the defensive end, his inconsistent bouts are frustrating to deal with and have cost the Red Devils on a few occasions.

United will have to improve upon their title challenge next season now that they are 16 points behind their bitter rivals in the points table. Mourinho will be taking on the challenge with a bunch of new signings from the summer window and Jorginho will be a big name to fill the gaps.
