Watford are lining up a possible bid for Inter Milan wantaway Marcelo Brozovic. The Serbian midfielder was hot on the radar of Everton in the January transfer window. The Toffees came in with a €16 million bid for the Serbian but failed to land him. Inter were reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of €20 million.
It is now being perceived that Watford are ready to pip Everton to the signature of the player this summer. Watford is owned by the Pozzo family who also own Serie A club Udinese. The story gets interesting here as Inter are reportedly seeking to land Udinese player Seko Fofana. It is believed that the owner of Watford and Udinese will use the transfer of Fofana to Watford as a medium to ensure that Brozovic moves to Watford.
The Croatian has been sparingly used by the Milan outfit and has fallen down the pecking order. It is believed that Inter manager is ready to cut loose Brozovic to balance the books for Inter’s Financial Fair Play. The former Dinamo Zagreb player has only played on less than 20 occasions scoring thrice and creating two more.
Watford who had enjoyed a bright start to their season under new manager Marco Silva are facing a new situation now. It has been only a few weeks since Watford decided to part ways with manager Marco Silva. The Hornets have moved swiftly and has appointed Javi Gracia as his successor. Gracia’s first assignment as Watford manager was against Southampton in the FA Cup, which he ended up losing 1-0.
However, the new boss did himself wonders when his side came up against last season’s Premier League winners Chelsea. They beat the champions 4-1 and were dominant in their display. They outran the blues midfield with Abdoulaye Doucouré particularly impressive. The Frenchman can run from box to box and is one of Watford’s primary midfielders. However, he has been linked with a move away from Watford which will leave the Hornets frail in the middle of the park.
Without Abdoulaye Doucouré, Watford have established midfielders in the form of Étienne Capoue and Tom Cleverley and young Nathaniel Chalobah. Hence should Doucouré leave, Gracia will need another established player with experience of playing at the highest level to steady the Watford midfield. This would mean that should a deal go through, it would be a good move for all parties as Inter will get their money, Watford a star player and Brozovic will get some much-needed game time to fulfil his potential.
