Latest reports are confirming that Everton are ready to part ways with Michael Keane. The highly-rated English defender who was brought in from Burnley last year for a sum of £30 million has deceived to flatter and the defender has been unable to replicate his form at Burnley.
The entire team of Everton has struggled this season and Farhad Moshiri who spent a fortune last summer will be worried about the state of the team. It is believed that the club is ready to cut their losses on the player and move him on. Should the Toffees decide to part ways with Keane, here are 3 replacements they can look at to improve their backline.
The unpredictable Brazilian has been blessed with an abundance of talent but harnessing it on a daily basis remains a matter of major dilemma for him. On his day, Luiz is not just a defender who can wall the goal with incessant ease but also storm into the opposition half and unleash a screamer into the back of the net. However, on his off days, he is best described by Gary Neville as a “PlayStation defender”. However, his talent had been channelized to perfection last season when Chelsea won the title and with the player now falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge, Everton can swoop in for him this summer.
It is believed that Jose Mourinho wants to reorganize his backline and is ready to part ways with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. Jones was signed from Blackburn Rovers by Sir Alex Ferguson as a young defender with great potential. Known for his no-nonsense style of defending, Jones applies the basics of defending very well. The Englishman’s career has, however, been hampered by multiple injuries and he is yet to live up to his potential. With Mourinho ready to cut him loose, Everton can cash in on the Englishman. He not only knows the league well but has potential to be a great defender.
The Foxes have been revamped under Claude Puel and are playing some excellent high-tempo football once again. Their defence has been stabilized with the pairing of Wes Morgan and Harry Maguire. Maguire has been particularly brilliant and has been linked with a move away from the club. If Maguire were to leave, Everton can once again make an attempt to bring him in as he would stabilize the ageing backline for years to come. He is another no-nonsense defender who would easily fit into Sam Allardyce’s style of football.
