Rangers are closing in on Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie with the transfer deadline fast approaching. According to the Daily Record, the Gers have made a move for the Swans forward with Graeme Murty eager to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window comes to a close at the end of the day. The Ibrox-based club are in talks with the Premier League strugglers as they look to pull off a surprise deadline day transfer of the Scottish Under 21 international.
Rangers chiefs have gotten in touch with the Welsh club as they look to agree on a loan deal for the Scottish forward. Sunderland has also been touted to move for the 6ft 2in frontman. However, Sunday Mail chief football writer Scott McDermott has revealed that talks have already taken place between Swansea and the Teddy Bears for the player who is a boyhood Rangers supporter. The move might also hint at the potential departure of their 21-year-old star forward Alfredo Morelos, who could be on his way out of Glasgow. He has already been gathering interest from Chinese club Beijing Renhe who recently had an offer worth up to £7.5m rejected by the Gers.
However, the Chinese Super League outfit could come back with their an improved offer next month as their transfer window shuts on February 28 which could mean that the Glaswegian club might be tempted by an improved offer from China in the near future.
McBurnie has made 11 appearances in the Premier League but is yet to find the back of the net for the Swans this season. However, he has got a Premier League assist to his name while being in terrific form when he featured in 7 matches for the Welsh club in Premier League 2 scoring 10 goals and providing one assist in the process. A loan spell out to Rangers could be beneficial for all parties as he could come back as a better player if he takes his opportunities at the Ibrox Stadium.
Rangers are currently occupying second place in the Scottish Premiership standings with a tally of 46 points in 24 league outings with only goal difference separating them from third-placed Aberdeen. The Teddy Bears have scored 45 league goals so far and could do with a new addition to bolster their attacking options going into the second half of their campaign. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Swansea forward and whether Rangers are successful in securing him on a loan deal before the end of this transfer window.
