Manchester United have one of the strongest squads in England but a number of players are currently not impressing their manager Jose Mourinho this season. One such player, who has failed to establish himself in the first team at the club is Dutch international Daley Blind. The 27-year old joined the club back in 2014 but has made just 87 appearances in the league, always standing as an outsider.
He is a versatile player, which has seen him play in multiple positions but Mourinho is reportedly ready to offload him in January, which might see him search for another left-back in the transfer window. Blind’s versatility is hard to replicate but there are a number of players who can be more effective as a full-back and here are three options they should look at to replace the Dutchman:
Alex Sandro (Juventus):
The Brazilian left-back is easily one of the best players in his position in Europe at the moment and is a top transfer target for Antonio Conte at the Stamford Bridge. Sandro has been linked with a move to Chelsea since the summer but Juventus are in no mood to sell anytime soon. However, with United ready to spend big on a full-back, they might be able to offer enough for the Italian Champions to finally part ways with the 26-year old. He can turn into the first choice at Old Trafford and is a sensible option for the Red Devils.
Faouzi Ghoulam (SSC Napoli):
Another player constantly linked with a move to England is Napoli full-back Ghoulam. The Algerian international is out of a contract at the end of the season and is wanted by a number of clubs around England but if United decide to let Blind leave in January, Ghoulam could just be the man for them in the future. At 26, he is an experienced campaigner, who can walk into the first team at Old Trafford and with not much of his contract left, he is also a cheap option, one Mourinho should definitely look at.
Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur):
To finish off the list is the England international, who is not too far away from a switch to Manchester. Having spoken openly against the wage system in London, Rose has constantly been linked with an exit recently and Manchester United are front-runners for his signature. He is also not going to cost too much and is a huge upgrade for Blind, given his experience in the top flight in England. He is easily one of the best in the role in England and a huge coup for United if they are able to pull it off.
