In one of the latest reports, the Daily Mail has stated that Manchester City’s defender, Pablo Mari, should be available in the upcoming January transfer window at a bargain price and a lot of Premier League, as well as Championship clubs, are believed to have put him on their radar.
In a scenario like this, it would make perfect sense from Leeds United to leave no stone unturned in order to lure him to the Elland Road. Mari, a centre-back by trade, emerged through the youth ranks of Mallorca and then moved to Gimnastic, wherein he made a series of strong statements by showcasing his calibre and resilience week in and week out. The Citizens were impressed by him and eventually, he was brought to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2016.
After three defeats on a trot, Leeds United made a comeback this weekend after defeating Middlesbrough but that doesn’t mean that they would not need reinforcements in January.
Last season’s debacle under the tutelage of Garry Monk is seemingly likely to be raw at the back of their mind, as they withered during the business end of the season, which did cost them a chance for promotion. Thomas Christiansen should avoid any sort of complacency and should be refilling his armoury effectively to strengthen their case.
The 24-year-old is a towering defender who can offer sheer composure to the backline of the Whites. He is strong, is generally found unafraid of venturing into the tight areas, makes shrewd tackles and interceptions time and again.
Besides, his leadership skills have been noticed by the clubs who have been tracking him and at this stroke of the hour, the Yorkshire-based club does need someone who could make a galvanizing impact at the back with his leadership as well as defensive skills.
Kyle Bartley did make a substantial amount of impact during his loan spell at Leeds United, but he was eventually recalled by his parent club, Swansea City, after the conclusion of his loan deal at the end of last season.
The Peacocks do need someone similar to Bartley, who could inject some quality and flair to their defensive line and frankly speaking, with a nominal release clause, signing Mari from Manchester City could be a shrewd move from their side.
