Manchester United won their first match in the Champions League comfortably, having beaten FC Basel by 3-0, which marked their return to the biggest club competition in Europe in emphatic fashion. They participated in the Europa League in the last term and won it, making it possible for them to book a place in the UEFA Champions League for this season despite finishing at sixth position in the Premier League.
The man in charge at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho, broke the bank this summer to add a number of top class players to the side and the move has paid off till now in this season so far.
However, the wily Portuguese has already got his plans chalked out for the winter transfer window and has in his sight one of the best midfielders in Europe in the form of Marco Verratti, who is currently playing for French giants Paris Saint Germain.
The 24-year-old has been the talk of the town since the last term not only for his amazing performance in Ligue 1 as well as Champions League for his side but also because he has been linked with a number of big name clubs from all over Europe, including the former Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona.
The Catalan giants were sure they would the mercurial player in the recently concluded summer transfer window from his current club but the deal did not materialise due to some irreversible circumstances. However, the Blaugrana have not lost their hope to get their desired candidate in the next transfer window, but their interest might be strongly contested by the former Premier League champions Manchester United.
Mourinho has already brought in a top class enforcer in the form of Nemanja Matic from fierce rivals Chelsea, who has performed excellently so far this season. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager is now reportedly eyeing the Italian player to bring him into the side and elevate the power and effectiveness of his midfield to new heights.
The Paris Saint Germain midfielder has been a part of his present side since 2012 and has appeared for them in 205 matches so far. His presence in the midfield for the former French Ligue 1 Champions has been nothing less than sensational and he has been instrumental in the side’s triumphs in the domestic as well as European circuit.
The Red Devils will expect him to fire for them as well but do you think Mourinho can lure him to Old Trafford?
