According to The Scottish Sun, Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers are poised to make an improved bid to lure Heart of Midlothian’s midfielder Jamie Walker to the Ibrox Stadium this summer. Walker banged 12 league goals in 34 appearances for his club last term, apart from 2 goals in as many appearances in the Scottish Cup and it goes without saying that his stocks have risen considerably. The Gers are believed to be plotting one last bid to beef the quality of their midfield in what would be their third bid to acquire his services.
The previous season was not a productive one for the Rangers as they watched their arch rivals Celtic clinch the domestic treble. The Teddy Bears seemingly appeared to be miles behind the Celts in terms of quality as well as productivity.
Pedro Caixinha has been very busy in the summer and has already jotted as many as nine signings, namely, Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans, Fabio Cardoso, Carlos Pena, Dalcio, Eduardo Herrera, Alfredo Morelos and Daniel Candeias and these acquisitions are testaments to their intentions to better themselves next season.
However, owing to their Europa League defeat to Progres Niederkorn, a tweak or two is still evident and Caixinha is thus aiming to leave no stone unturned to boost the morale of the troops as well as to enhance the quality in his arsenal.
In a scenario like this, someone like Walker would perfectly fit the bill, considering his pedigree and the fact that he is well acquainted with how things churn out in the Scottish top flight. At the onset, it must be underlined that signing him would not be a gamble and will unarguably be a safe bet, for he has the calibre to take the Glasgow based club forward in the right direction.
Having emerged through the youth ranks of the Jambos, Walker offers sheer attacking instincts and has adequate experience under his belt. Besides, he has an inclination to test the opposition’s goalkeeper and also brings his teammates into the equation with his shrewd passes and movements on and off the ball.
As a matter of fact, the former Al-Gharafa boss is taking him very seriously as he was personally present to witness the 24-year-old in action in Hearts’ friendly game against Newcastle United.
It is about time for Walker to venture into a new endeavour and the fact that his contract expires next summer coupled with his reluctance to extend his contract, Hearts are likely to lose the battle of keeping him at the Tynecastle Stadium. The Light Blues will be keeping their fingers crossed now and if they manage to sign him, they would be a team to look out for in the upcoming season.
