Leeds United are definitely the club to look out for in the Championship this season as the Whites continue to go through interesting changes. The appointment of Thomas Christiansen as the new boss after Garry Monk decided to step down against the club’s wishes, would be commencing a new era in the history of the club.
With a new owner determined to make a difference this time, after the club came tremendously close to securing a playoff qualification spot last season, the Spanish boss will definitely have a good amount to splurge this summer and Leeds fans could expect some interesting arrivals now.
Christiansen has spent a considerable time in the Barcelona academy as a player and many would expect him to have an eye for talent in choosing his transfer targets this summer. The biggest problem for Leeds last season was their attack, and we expect the manager to focus more on that. Here are 3 players Leeds could target this summer-
Matt Derbyshire- The Blackburn-born forward is reportedly one of the top priorities for Christiansen this summer as the boss looks to add experience to Leeds’ attack. The Whites have one of the best strikers in the Championship in Chris Wood, and Derbyshire’s addition would bring the perfect balance.
The 31-year-old English forward moved to Cyprus side Omonia Nicosia last summer and has impressed Christiansen immensely with his 20 goals in 25 appearances. The former manager of APOEL Nicosia had a chance to study him closely and is confident of his abilities.
Ryan Kent- The Liverpool U-23 winger seems to be a hot target this summer transfer window. Following a successful season with Championship side Barnsley FC, Scottish giants Celtic are now keeping tabs on him. He managed three goals and three assists in all competitions for the Tykes and Leeds would obviously get him on loan.
At just 20, he has shown immense maturity and under Christiansen, could play a season changing the role for Leeds. Leeds have even made a £2.5 million bid for the player.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles- The Arsenal midfielder had spent the last season on loan with Ipswich Town and Leeds could follow suit for him. The Arsenal U-23 player has shown some real promise at the top level over the years, but given the crisis that Arsenal are in right now, his place in the first team is increasingly unlikely.
Although his appearances were limited at Ipswich to just 20, he still managed two assists and Leeds could get a versatile option in the player.
