Manchester United have entered the Final of the UEFA Europe League this season, having beaten the Spanish side Celta Vigo by a narrow margin of 2-1-0 over the two legs of the Semi Final. This is the only chance for The Red Devils to clinch major silverware for the current season, the rest of it being pretty dismal for them.
United deserve praise for their commendable effort in the Europa League this year despite a number of injuries that has sidelined quite a few players for the rest of the season. An array of players including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo have been out of the side with injury scares at one time or the other.
However, they showed their resilience to make it to the last two of the Europa League. Under the coaching of the Portuguese mastermind Jose Mourinho, The Red Devils made it through to book a date with the Dutch side Ajax in the Final which will be played in Stockholm. Here are three players who were comprehensive in helping them to the final:
The English youngster has been in brilliant form this season for the Red Devils and has played a very important role by scoring goals and providing assists for his teammates throughout the competition. In fact, it was his brilliant free kick that made it possible for Manchester United to edge past their opponents Celta Vigo in the Europa League Semi Final. In the absence of star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rashford took the onus on his shoulders to carry his team into the Final with his gallant performance.
The Spanish midfielder has played a pivotal role in the midfield for The Red Devils and helped them reach the Final of the UEFA Europa League this season. Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho showed faith in him by giving him more time to spend out on the pitch, and Herrera returned it with brilliant performances to hold the midfield for his side throughout the tournament.
Already hailed as the best right back in the world by his coach Mourinho, the Ecuadorian has been a mainstay in The Red Devils’ defence. He excelled in evading dangers from the opposition as well as participating in counter attacks on the opposition goal to help Manchester United reach the Final of the Europa League this season. He will have to wrapped in cotton to keep him fit for the final.
