It will be a big night for Huddersfield Town and their coach David Wagner when they face Reading in the final of the Play offs to make a leap into the Premier League from the Championship next season. It goes without saying that the Terriers will be looking to give it their all to make a move into the top flight after a long absence.
All the players have been brilliant for Huddersfield this season, enabling them to reach the Play off finals by beating Sheffield Wednesday to book a date with the other finalist team Reading. One of them, who played a pivotal role between the sticks for the Terriers, is their goalkeeper Danny Ward, who joined the team last season on loan from Premier League side Liverpool.
The Welshman has been in gallant form for his current club and has kept 11 clean sheets in 43 appearances so far. His towering appearance as the last line of defence has impressed the current coach of Huddersfield David Wagner, who wants to sign the 24 year old on a permanent basis to strengthen his side for the next season.
Huddersfield, given they win the final play-off match against Reading on Monday at Wembley, will make their way back into the Premier League first time after 1972. Wagner is well aware of the fact that he will have to make his team stronger so as to face the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and current champions Chelsea, and wants players like Ward to stay back at the club.
Wagner is known to be a good friend of the Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp and spent a lot of time working under him during his time as the coach of German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. The Huddersfield manager would like to capitalise on their good relationship and will look to make a permanent deal to hold back his prized possession Ward from leaving the club in the summer.
However, Jurgen Klopp is reportedly planning to go on the pre-season tour with all his goalkeepers in his side, alongside the likes of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius. The German mastermind has been very impressed with the composure and confidence that the Welsh shot stopper has shown in between the sticks for his current club Huddersfield in the Championship this season, especially in the semi final matchup against Sheffield Wednesday, where he made two crucial saves in the penalty shootout to turn the result in favour of his side. So it will not be easy for Klopp to let him leave this summer, even as he struggles to find a solution to the goalkeeping problems at Anfield.
