After two back to back wins, West Ham have got themselves out of the danger zone. The Hammers are now five points clear of the danger zone and would be keen to maintain their good form. Currently seventh-placed, Southampton are not all that far away from the Hammers’ grasp which means that they can still hope for a top eight finish if they bring in some consistency to their game. Slaven Bilic got the backing of the owners at a tough time and has done really well to turn around the club’s fortunes, well at least from what we’ve seen of late.
The Telegraph claims the London club will sound out United about a loan deal for Martial, who moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2015 for a fee rising to £56million. The deal saw him become the most expensive teenager in the history of football. His first season was brilliant at Old Trafford but he has failed to maintain his form this season and is clearly struggling under Mourinho.
Martial has not started in either of United’s last two games and both of the fixtures saw the team pick up vital wins. West Ham boss Bilic knows the fact that Martial is out of favour at the moment at Old Trafford and is well aware of his capabilities and therefore, he is keen to make a loan move for the French international.
The Telegraph also claim that if West Ham fail to land Martial, they would make a loan offer for Marcus Rashford who is struggling for playing time as a centre-forward.
Martial is one of the best young players in Europe who burst onto the scene with Monaco at a very young age before being acquired by Manchester United for a ludicrous fee. Dubbed as ‘The Next Thierry Henry’, he has a huge potential but needs to play regularly to fulfil it. West Ham can offer him what he wants and what he needs which is why a loan move makes sense.
The French wizard impressed as a number nine for United last season. Even though he is capable of playing on the flanks thanks to his blistering pace, his best position is centre-forward and with Zlatan Ibrahimović and Wayne Rooney ahead of him in the pecking order, Martial is having to settle for a place on the left flank which is not helping him.
All Martial needs to fulfil his immense promise is confidence and for that, he needs to get goals on a regular basis. West Ham have lacked a potent goal-getter this campaign and Martial can make the centre-forward position of his own for the time he stays at the London Stadium.
For both West Ham and Martial, this move makes sense but will Mourinho be prepared to lose his squad depth? Probably, not! So, West Ham’s chances of getting their man are thin.
