With Chelsea in a transition stage, Antonio Conte is expected to go big in the transfer market. And the Blues have been linked with quite many hot prospects across Europe lately. And as per Spanish news agency Don Balon, the Italian is plotting a huge move to bring in Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich.
An offer in the region of €50m is apparently being readied by Chelsea for Vidal next summer. The 29-year-old has been one of the best players to play in that position in the last few years and has already fired his national team to two Copa America titles in the last two years.
Although he hasn’t been at his best since moving to Munich from Serie A giants Juventus, there is no denying of his individual prowess to fire Bavarians to the title yet again. Having a player like him could be a serious upgrade to Chelsea’s two-man midfield.
Vidal has scored 48 goals in 171 games during his stint in Juventus helping them to three back-to-back Serie A titles. He has already won the German championship and German Cup with Bayern, and there is little doubt he would be an immediate success at Stamford Bridge.
At 29, he still has a good three years left in his prime and his former coach, Conte is eyeing to utilise that. The Chilean is a perfect blend of someone having unparalleled stamina, being a relentless man marker and having nerves of steel in front of goal.
This season, he has scored once creating 11 chances in 14 appearances. He has completed 830 passes so far with a passing accuracy of 90%, of which 64% were forward passes.
Vidal had a man of the match performance in Bayern’s big match against Atletico Madrid. Completely adept in both defensive and offensive, Vidal would be an impeccable player to play alongside Kante.
With both the midfield engines roaring at the centre and Diego Costa up front, the Blues could be one of the European superpowers. Vidal’s contract runs out in 2019 and if Munich aren’t willing to hold on to him, they are likely to cash on him next season.
AS Roma’s Radja Nainggolan has been one of the long-term targets for Chelsea, but the Blues have for long been missing out on him repeatedly. Now, with their sights set on Vidal, Chelsea might be persuaded to leave him alone.
