Bayern Munich proved too much for newcomers RB Leipzig, as they fell through the hands of Carlo Ancelotti’s side after conceding three goals in the first half. The opening goal arrived in the 17th minute when Lahm’s cross from the right led to Lewandowski’s effort striking the post, with Thiago applying the first-time finish on the rebound. In the 25th minute, Naby Keita lost possession in the middle, which led a quickfire counter-attack from Bayern.
Bayern made it three just before the halftime whistle. Douglas Costa raced on a highball and was brought down by keeper Peter Gulacsi, as the ref awarded a penalty for the home side. Robert Lewandowski successfully converted the spot kick to kill the game within halftime. Here are the Bayern player ratings, as they secure Die Herbstmeister after beating Leipzig.
Manuel Neuer(8/10): Neuer was not tested as much as he would have expected. However, the German International stood up to the task when he was called upon. Saved a brilliant header from Willi Orban in the first half.
Philipp Lahm(8/10): A doubt prior to the game. Philipp Lahm ended up starting the game on the right back position, where he was a dominant figure.
His cross led to the Bayern opener, also showed a great burst of pace to earn the Forsberg red card.
Javi Martinez(8/10): His positional sense was key for Bayern not conceding a goal against Leipzig. Martinez read the play extremely well to prevent the opposition from breaching Bayern’s backline.
Mats Hummels(8.5/10): Arguably had his best game for Bayern. The former Dortmund man sported his newly dyed blonde hair. He was flawless defensively, winning four headed duels and three interceptions.
While his long ball to Costa led to the penalty and the final goal from Bayern, he was never neglecting his defensive duties.
David Alaba(8/10): Prior to the game, Alaba won the Austrian player of the year for the sixth consecutive time, which also boosted his confidence as his contribution on the left flank was remarkable.
Never got caught by Leipzig’s intensity and stood up to his task very well indeed.
